Southwestern, Schreiner's Stewart Selected for NCAA Men's Golf Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will be represented by players from two schools at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship this year.

Southwestern University will enter the competition as a team, securing one of the available Pool B spots, while Phillip Stewart of Schreiner University will compete as an individual.

Southwestern, the 2016 SCAC Men's Golf Champion, enter the program's fourth consecutive NCAA tournament after a successful season.

The Pirates finished in the top-10 at seven of their nine competitions this year, highlighted by their top finish in April at the conference championship event.

Phillip Stewart of Schreiner University completed the 2015-16 year ranked #5 in the nation among all small college players. His scoring average of 73.25 is third best in Schreiner history. His best finish was second (twice) and he accumulated seven top-six finishes in eight tournaments this year.

The championships, which will be held May 10-13 at Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club, in Rochester, New York, will be hosted by St. John Fisher College and the Monroe County Sports Commission.

A total of 210 participants will compete at the 2015 championships. Thirty-two conferences were awarded an automatic qualification for the championships. Two teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final seven berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.

The top five individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.
