Sigler, Spenkoch Named SCAC Men's and Women's Golf Coaches of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Greg Sigler of Southwestern University was named SCAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year, while Carla Spenkoch of Trinity University earned Women's Golf Coach of the Year recognition.

In Sigler's first year at the helm of the Pirates' program, he led Southwestern to its second SCAC Championship, and the first since 2010. The team had a successful season, earning five top five finishes, including runner-up honors at three tournaments. The Pirates were ranked 17th in the most recent Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.

The Pirates received an at-large bid to the national championship this year, earning their fourth consecutive trip to the event. Southwestern posted rounds of 322 and 313 to begin the tournament, but fell short of the cut and ended their season.

On the women's side, Spenkoch led Trinity's group to the program's third conference championship, and the second under her leadership. In her 20th year as head coach, the Tigers earned top five finishes in all but one competition, while winning two tournaments.  The Tigers ended the season ranked No. 19 in the nation.

This is the first Coach of the Year honor in the SCAC for Sigler, while this is the second for Spenkoch.
