Three SCAC Golfers Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar

NORMAN, Okla. -- Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes earned Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar honors.

Schreiner University's Phillip Stewart, Southwestern University's Connor Murphy and Texas Lutheran University's Kraig Zimmerhanzel all earned the honor following the 2015-16 season.

Stewart, a recent graduate from Lake Jackson, Texas, had success both on and off the course, earning Second Team PING All-American honors, and being named a finalist for the Nicklaus National Player of the Year award. He was also named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship team, and has earned a spot on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll for the second year in a row. His scoring average of 73.64 ranked 21st in the nation. He posted five top five finishes this season, including a second place finish, the best of his career.

Murphy, a junior from Searcy, Arkansas, held a scoring average of 77.41 this season, while earning one top 10 finish on the season.

Zimmerhanzel, a junior from Smithville, Texas, ranked 40th in the nation with a scoring average of 73.95. He also won two tournaments in 2015-16, taking the John Bohmann Memorial and the West Region Invitational.

Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for Division III are announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
