Trinity Men's Golf Wins Team and Individual Honors at Alamo City Classic

SPRING BRANCH, Texas - The Trinity University Tigers men's golf team won two titles Tuesday at their Alamo City Classic at the par-72, 6,797-yard River Crossing Golf Club course.

Trinity won the team title by seven strokes over NCAA Division II St. Mary's University. Tiger sophomore Ryan Barry (pictured right) took individual medalist honors by winning a three-hole playoff with two other golfers.

Barry, who shot a 1-under-par 71 Tuesday, for a 4-under 140 two-round total, won the third playoff hole to bring home the hardware. Vince Cavazos of Texas-Brownsville and Sam Jernigan of St. Mary's also were in the playoff. Barry and Cavazos shot par-4s on the opening hole, while Jernigan bogeyed and was eliminated. Both remaining golfers birdied the par-3 second hole and remained tied. Cavazos recorded a par and Barry made a birdie on the par-5 third hole to win the tournament.

In the team event, the Tigers shot a final-round 292, for an even-par 576 total. St. Mary's made 297 for a 7-over 583 and Texas-Brownsville hit 299 for a 12-over 588. Southwestern was fourth (599), McMurry placed fifth (617) and Texas Lutheran was sixth (627).

Tiger first-year golfer Warren Taylor shot a 1-under 71 each day and a fourth-place finish. Senior Nash Kassam went 3-over 75 and placed eighth. First-year Geoffrey Setiawan shot a 5-over 77 for a tie for 12th. Senior Chase Clayton, playing as an individual, tied for 15th place, shooting a final-round 2-over 74. Sophomore Eric Davis, also playing as an individual, went 5-over 77 and tied for 18th place. Senior Jonathan Alden finished in the No. 20 slot, shooting a 3-over 75.
