ATLANTA, Ga. – The Oglethorpe University
men’s golf team, winners of the 2009 NCAA Division III
Men’s Golf Championship held last May in Port St. Lucie,
Florida, received their National Championship rings in a ceremony
held at the historic East Lake Golf Club on Wednesday, March
31.
The ceremony commemorated the Stormy Petrels’ historic
come-from-behind victory at the PGA Villages in Port St. Lucie to
secure the school’s first National Championship in any sport
and included each member of the team and coaching staff receiving
their Championship rings from the NCAA and Oglethorpe President Dr.
Lawrence M. Schall. The team also presented Dr. Schall with the
National Championship trophy to be held in Oglethorpe’s
athletic archives. The event was sponsored by Blue Cross / Blue
Shield, Chick-fil-A, The Coca-Cola Company, Ernst & Young,
Invesco, Southern Company and SunTrust.
