INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Centre College, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2010 Division III Men's Golf Championship. Joining Centre, Oglethorpe University earned its tenth consecutive NCAA Championship bid and the program's 11th overall bid in 2010 after receiving an at-large Pool C bid.
Centre earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament via a tiebreaker.
Centre led wire-to-wire but had to go to the tiebreaker (fifth score each day) to earn the title after the Colonels and Pirates of Southwestern finished in a flat-footed tie at 926 strokes for the tournament.
The Colonels will be competing in the NCAA Division III Championships for the second time in school history. Centre first competed in the event in 1984 in Syracuse, New York.
Oglethorpe returns to the NCAA Championships as the defending champions after the Stormy Petrels’ historic come-from-behind victory at the PGA Villages in Port St. Lucie to secure the school’s first National Championship in any sport.
The championships will be held May 11-14, at the Hershey Links and Hershey Country Club, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The championships will be hosted by Elizabethtown College.
