PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Oglethorpe University's
freshman Olafur Loftsson, who earned the Division III Arnold Palmer
Award which is presented by Callaway for earning medalist honors at
the NCAA Championships, leads four SCAC student-athletes named to
the Division III PING All-America Team.
After posting rounds of 75-73 the first two days of the NCAA
Championships, Loftsson, who was honored as a First Team
All-America selection for his performance, fired a third round
68 to move to even par and a tie for third place. He carded five
birdies in the final round for a three-under-par 69 to force a
playoff with La Verne's Mitch Fedorka before claiming the title on
the first playoff hole.
Joining Loftsson on the Division III PING All-America Team are two
of his teammates - freshman Colin Chapman, who posted a tied for
11th place finish at the 2009 Championships and junior Scott
Pugh who finished in a tie for 15th place. Both Chapman and Pugh
were Second Team selections.
Sophomore Chris Morris of Centre College finished in 22nd place and
was named to the Third Team.
Ronnie Harris of DePauw University, a
first-year golfer from Avon, Ind., was one of six
national honorees to the GCAA Division III All-Freshmen Team.
