Michael Wambsganss, University of Dallas, Player of the Week (Week Eight)

MICHAEL WAMBSGANSS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore guard from Denver, Colo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 7 through Sunday, January 13.

Wambsganss registered a season-best 24 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games to help lift the Crusaders to an 84-77 victory over previously unbeaten in conference play, Southwestern. Wambsganss poured in 22 of his team-leading points in the second half on 9-of-16 shooting, including 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. The sophomore guard also added three steals and one assist. Wambsganss has combined for 76 points during UD's four-game winning streak, all of which have come against league opponents. The Crusaders, who had lost six consecutive games prior to their current win streak, sit third in the SCAC standings at 4-2. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Cedric Harris of Centenary sparked the Gents to a 20-point victory against East Tex. Baptist after scoring a career-high 34 points and collecting eight rebounds. Junior forward CooXooEii Black of Colorado College posted his sixth double-double of the season to lead the CC Tigers to a 58-51 victory over Trinity last Friday. Black who produced game highs of 15 points and 11 rebounds, sank a pair of free throws to give CC a 53-51 lead and then its defense held TU scoreless the rest of the way. Junior forward Brandon Alexander of Southwestern followed up a 23-point performance in a win over Austin College by matching his career-high with 32 points against Dallas, hitting 4-for-7 from deep while notching his first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Senior forward Harris Jowell of Texas Lutheran averaged 14.5 points per game to help lead the Bulldogs to 2-0 in last week's action. Jowell tallied his second double-double of the season, with 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Bulldogs' win over Austin College on Saturday and scored 12 points and added eight rebounds in the win over Schreiner. Junior guard Brooks Mays of Trinity averaged 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as the TU Tigers lost a pair of tight road games in Colorado over the weekend.
