Treylan Matthews, Centenary College, Player of the Week (Week Twelve)

TREYLAN MATTHEWS OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior guard from Houston, Texas., has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, February 4 through Sunday, February 10.

Matthews had quite the senior week as the Gents picked up key conference wins and help Centenary post its first three-game winning streak of the season. Matthews opened the week with an 18-point performance in a victory at Dallas on Tuesday before pouring in a career-high 34 points, seven more than his previous high, scoring more than half of the Gents points in the 66-62 win against Colorado College on Friday.

To cap off the week, on senior night, Matthews shined to help lead Centenary from a double-digit second half deficit to defeat Johnson & Wales on Saturday. With Centenary trailing all game, Matthews hit a three to tie the game at 59 with a little less than two minutes left - the first tie since 0-0. After a Centenary stop, Matthews hit a jumper just inside the arc near the elbow with 1.6 seconds left, Centenary's first and only lead of the game. In total on the week, Matthews averaged 23.7 points on 50 percent shooting (22-of-44) and added four rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Senior guard Jontrell Herman of Johnson & Wales (Denver) averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in road contests against Austin and Centenary. Herman went off for 35 points -- his sixth 30-point game of the season -- on 10-of-15 shooting in Friday's win over the 'Roos. Sophomore forward Matthew Rindahl of Schreiner led the SCAC in rebounds per game last week (10.0) and posted his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Southwestern.
