ANDREW ROMERO III OF JOHNSON & WALES (DENVER), a senior guard from Northglenn, Colo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 28 through Sunday, February 3.

Romero III led the Wildcats to a pair of wins over the top two teams in the SCAC over the weekend, averaging 32.5 points on 62.5 percent shooting (20-for-23), 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals in victories over Texas Lutheran and Southwestern. The two wins vaulted the Wildcats to second place in the SCAC standings, just a half-game behind TLU. The senior, who leads the conference in scoring, averaging 24.7 points per game, has reached the 30-point plateau six times this season including in both wins last week. 
 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward CooXooEii Black of Colorado College scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds in Friday’s 88-78 victory over Southwestern to keep the Tigers’ postseason hopes alive. It was the ninth time this season Black scored 20 or more points in a game and moved the junior forward into 19th place on the program’s career scoring list. Black recorded 18 points and four rebounds in Saturday’s loss to Texas Lutheran. Sophomore forward Michael Wambsganss of Dallas led the Crusaders with 19.5 points-per-game in a pair of victories last week. He shined in the team’s SCAC road win at Austin College with a season-high 29 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Sophomore forward Matthew Rindahl of Schreiner averaged 13.3 points, 12 rebounds and one assist per game to lead the Mountaineers to a 2-1 record last week. Rindahl collected his third and fourth double-doubles of the year in a loss to Centenary and a win against Austin College. Junior forward Brandon Alexander of Southwestern averaged 23 points and three rebounds per game in a pair of road losses last week for the Pirates. Senior forward Harris Jowell of Texas Lutheran averaged a double-double, 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds, as the Bulldogs went 1-1 on a tough SCAC road trip to Colorado. In the loss to Johnson & Wales, Jowell scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds. He hit 10 of his 15 field goal attempts. In the road win over Colorado College, he scored 16 and pulled down six rebounds, making 8-of-12 shot attempts and registered three assists. Jowell shot 66.7 percent from the field for the week Freshman forward Carter Laramore of Trinity led the Tigers to a 2-1 record last week, bouncing back from Tuesday’s loss to Schreiner to sweep Austin College and Centenary over the weekend. Laramore made his first two career starts in the two victories for the Tigers and led the team in rebounding on both nights. Laramore averaged 6.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game over the week, shooting 50% (8-16) from the field and 80% (4-5) from three-point range.
