KEENAN GUMBS OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from Cibolo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, January 21.

The Mountaineers had a 2-0 weekend and moved to the top of the SCAC leaderboard this week, behind a record-breaking weekend for Gumbs.

In Friday's game, the Mountaineers edged Austin College 99-93 in overtime, with Gumbs scoring 46 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He went 26-of-27 from the charity stripe, easily surpassing the previous records for free throws made (19) and free throws attempted (22). His 46 points rank third all-time in the conference. He also added 12 rebounds and a pair of steals in the game.

Saturday, Gumbs scored 20 points, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two assists in just 22 minutes to help the team to an 81-68 win over Centenary College.

For the week, Gumbs averaged 33.0 points on 55.2% shooting, 8.5 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Schreiner is now 5-1 in SCAC play as they head into the second half of the conference schedule.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard/forward Justice Mercadel of Austin College had a spectacular weekend in a pair of narrow losses, averaging 25.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 4.5 steals while shooting 59% from the field and 60% from three point range. Senior forward Chris Martin of Colorado College returned to the lineup after a six-game absence and scored double-digit points against both Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. Freshman forward Spencer Levi of the University of Dallas averaged 15.5 points and 12.0 rebounds, while maintaining his top-5 nationally ranked shooting percentage at a 71.7-clip. Sophomore guard Ryan Wheeler of Southwestern University led the Pirates to two road wins this weekend while averaging 17 points per game in just 22 minutes. Junior guard Nathan Josephs of Texas Lutheran University averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game to lead the Bulldogs to a pair of road conference victories over the weekend. Sophomore forward Danny Rivara of Trinity University finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds in Friday's narrow loss to Centenary, then helped the Tigers to a hard-fought win over Austin with a 30-point night.
