St. Thomas' Williams IV Named to NABC All-America Second Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2022-23 NABC Coaches’ Division III All-America team and University of St. Thomas’ Calvin Williams IV garnered Second Team honors.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division III, these student-athletes represent the most outstanding basketball players across America in their division.

Williams, sophomore guard from Spring, Texas, added this honor to his extensive list of postseason accolades for the 2022-23 season. He was named SCAC Player of the Year last month and earlier this week, Williams earned a spot on both the NABC and D3Hoops.com All-Region squads. Williams in the first SCAC athlete to earn NABC All-American honors since Schreiner’s Keenan Gumbs was recognized back in 2017-18.

He played and started in all 27 games for the Celts, averaging 15.1 points per game (fourth in the SCAC) which included a conference-best 17.3 points per game in league play. He is also among the conference leaders in steals (50 – second), points (407 – third) and assists (63 – ninth). Williams scored in double figures in 14 games during the regular season, and he had eight games where he topped 20 points, including the Feb. 4 game against Dallas where he had a season-high 27 points to lead St. Thomas to a 65-62 come-from-behind victory – a victory that clinched the regular season conference title for the Celts.

The Celts had a historic season, becoming the first men’s team to post an undefeated conference mark (and just the second all-time) since the Centre College men went 14-0 in 2007-08. In addition, St. Thomas earned a bid into the program’s first ever NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament.
