SCAC Men's Basketball Recap - Week Fourteen

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Heading into the final week of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball regular season, Austin College, Centenary and Texas Lutheran have each secured spots in the SCAC tournament, leaving five teams in the fight for the remaining three slots.

Austin College (11-5 SCAC; 14-9 overall) is now 11-5 in conference play with wins over Southwestern (76-57) on Friday and Texas Lutheran (94-79) on Saturday. Devin Roland had 21 points on Friday, leading the 'Roos to their 10th conference victory of the season - a highwater mark for the program since the 2011-12 squad went 11-5. Coming off the bench, Roman Strickland and Kam Hogan added 17 points apiece. Michael Holland led three other 'Roos in double figures with 26 points in Saturday's victory. Roland added 17 points with seven rebounds with Hill chipping in 11 points and Justice Mercadel recording 10. 

Colorado College (6-10 SCAC; 8-14 overall) also went 2-0 over the weekend with wins over Schreiner (87-69) and Trinity (75-52). In Friday's win against Schreiner, CooXooEii Black chalked up his tenth double-double of the season with a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds. Three other Tigers scored in double digits, including Aaron Acosta with a 22-point performance. In Saturday's win Black dished out another double-double - this time with 20 points and 14 rebounds - to become the fourth player in SCAC history to rack up more than 1,500 points and 700 rebounds in a career. 

Centenary (11-5 SCAC; 14-9 overall) picked up its biggest win of the season taking down regular season champions St. Thomas, 99-89, on Friday. The Gents picked up their 11th conference victory, tying a school single-season record, and extended their winning streak to six games - the longest such streak since the 2015-16 season. Cedric Harris led the way for the Gents recording a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Ralph Johnson matched Harris with a career-high 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds. 

Dallas (8-8 SCAC; 12-11 overall) split games over the week, earning a 76-71 victory over Texas Lutheran on Friday with a loss to Southwestern (90-79) on Saturday. John Russell paced the Crusaders with a season-high 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in Friday's win. Jia Love and Dustin Mathis added 15 points apiece for the Crusaders.   

Trinity is now 8-8 in conference play (10-13 overall) after splitting games over the weekend, with a 85-73 win over Johnson & Wales on Friday. AJ Clark led four different Tigers in double-figures with 15 points. Ben Canady and Ben Hannley chipped in 12 points apiece. 

Southwestern (6-10 SCAC; 10-13 overall) also split games over the weekend with a win over Dallas, 90-79. Kyle Howard, Luke Hicks and Trenton Garrett all chipped in with 15 points apiece in the win. 

Schreiner (6-10 SCAC; 8-15 overall) went 1-1 over the weekend, with a victory over Johnson & Wales (73-52) on Saturday. Paul Wells led the way for the Mountaineers with 23 points, with Matthew Rindahl adding 16. 

SCAC men's basketball regular season action wraps up this week with the final ten games of the season. Both Dallas and Trinity can wrap up berths into the conference tournament with one win in either of their final two games while Colorado College, Schreiner and Southwestern battle it out for what may be the final tournament slot.
