LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a busy first full week of SCAC men’s basketball with all nine teams in action led by Johnson & Wales posting a perfect 2-0 record at the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament to open the season.

The Wildcats opened the weekend with a four-point victory over Wis. River-Falls before cruising to a 22-point win against Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday. JWU was led on the weekend by senior Jontrell Herman after pouring in 65 points (32.5 ppg) on 22-of-40 shooting (55.0 %), including 7-for-12 from three and added 12 rebounds and eight assists in the two wins. The 2-0 start is the first for the Wildcats since the 2004-2005 season.

Southwestern is off to its third 2-1 start since the 2010-2011 season and the lone other SCAC squad currently above .500 through the first week and a half of play to start the season. The Pirates earned victories over Howard Payne and UT Dallas which bookended a loss to Hardin-Simmons. Ryan Wheeler led the way for Southwestern averaging 13.3 points per game on the week, including 19 in the win against Howard Payne.

Austin College (2-2), Colorado College (1-1), Schreiner (1-2) and Texas Lutheran (1-2) all went 1-1 last weekend picking up wins against Hendrix, Iowa Wesleyan, East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau respectively.

Men’s basketball continues over the Thanksgiving break with a number of teams participating in early season tournaments this coming weekend. All nine teams will be in action with 14 non-conference contests scheduled for the weekend.
