LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The 2018-19 SCAC men's basketball season tipped off on Thursday with the league posting a cumulative 2-3 mark in limited opening week action.

Centenary College picked up an 84-79 victory over Hardin-Simmons on Saturday behind a pair of 21-point performances from senior guard Treylan Matthews and freshman guard Kile Mingo. The season-opening victory snapped a four-year streak of first-game losses for the Gents.

Austin College, the only SCAC team to play more than once, split its first two contests. The 'Roos defeated Howard Payne, 101-95, on Friday before dropping a 97-60 decision to Rhodes College on Sunday. Sophomore guard Justice Mercadel had 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the victory over HPU.
