SCAC Men's Basketball Recap - Week Ten

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball continued last week, highlighted by Texas Lutheran winning its sixth-straight to remain at the top of the league standings. The win also capped off an undefeated month of January, which was the first in the 70-year history of the program.

TLU (13-6, 8-2) defeated Trinity (3-16, 3-7), 65-59, last Saturday behind 16 points and nine rebounds from Sebastian Andrade. It was the fifth time this season Andrade has paced the Bulldogs in scoring. The current six game win streak TLU is riding is the longest since the Bulldogs won nine-straight during the 2015-16 season.

Southwestern (10-8, 7-2) held serve at home with a nine-point win over Trinity last Tuesday in the Pirates only game of the week. Brandon Alexander continued his impressive play in conference action with 27 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

Johnson & Wales (14-6, 7-4) closed out its January portion of the schedule with a 78-68 victory over Dallas. Andrew Romero III recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 27 points and 10 rebounds. The Wildcats finished the month of January with a 5-1 record.

Centenary (8-10, 5-4) went 1-1 last week, defeating Schreiner by 11 points on Sunday afternoon. In the win, Cedric Harris led the Gents with 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting. Centenary also shot a season-best 52.2 percent from 3-point range connecting on 12-of-23 in the game.

Dallas (7-11, 5-5) despite its loss to JWU, remained .500 in league play and posted a 1-1 record on the week after earning a 21-point home win over Colorado College (6-14, 2-9) on Friday night. Michael Wambsganss led the Crusaders in scoring for the ninth time this year in the win over the CC Tigers, posting 17 points and chipping in with five rebounds.

Schreiner (8-10, 4-5) extended its win streak to three following a 76-74 overtime win against Austin College on Friday night before falling to Centenary on Sunday. Leading the Mountaineers to victory was Matthew Rindahl who poured in game-high 24 points and collected a conference season best 17 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

Austin College (7-11, 3-6) opened the week with a 76-68 home win against Centenary on Tuesday, led by a season-high 26 points from Devin Roland. As a team, the ‘Roos shot a season best 47.4 percent from 3-point range, hitting 9-of-19 in the victory.

A big week of SCAC men’s basketball action lies ahead with two games scheduled on Tuesday and four apiece scheduled for Friday and Saturday highlighted by Johnson & Wales hosting both Southwestern and Texas Lutheran over the weekend .
