Schreiner to Face Whitman in the NCAA First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Schreiner University Mountaineers will face Whitman College at the Blues' home court in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

Schreiner and Whitman are part of a four-team pod (first and second rounds) to be played at Walla Walla, Wash. In the other first-round matchup, Whitworth University (24-3) will meet Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (19-7).

Schreiner won the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship for a the first time in program history and will advance to the NCAA tournament for the first time. The Mountaineers received the conference's automatic bid.

Schreiner holds an overall record of 15-12 after a 2-0 record in a SCAC tournament run that included wins over No. 4 seed Trinity University and No. 2 seed Centenary College. The Mountaineers were the No. 1 seed after earning a second-straight SCAC Men's Basketball regular season title.

Whitman, out of the Northwest Conference, will make its third consecutive NCAA appearance. The Blues are 26-1 overall and received an at-large bid to the 2018 tournament after falling at the buzzer in the NWC Championship game.
