Southwestern's Hightower Named to NABC 30-Under-30 Team

HOUSTON, Texas -- Southwestern University head men's basketball coach, Janson Hightower, was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 30-under-30 Team earlier this week.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) presented its major awards for the 2015-16 men's basketball season Sunday night at the annual AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show. The event was held at the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center in Houston during the annual NABC Convention held in conjunction with the 2016 NCAA® Men's Final Four®.

Hightower took the reigns of the Southwestern men's basketball program before the 2014-15 season. He led the Pirates to a 15-11 record and a No. 3 seed in the SCAC tournament in his first year at the helm. During the 2015-16 season, the Pirates posted a 13-13 record, while going 10-4 in SCAC action.

In his two seasons leading the program, players have earned seven total All-SCAC honors, headlined by Sophomore Ryan Ogden's First Team All-SCAC performance this season.

Hightower joined the Southwestern staff in August of 2012 as the assistant men's basketball coach and assistant golf coach. During his two seasons, Southwestern players earned six All-SCAC honors and the Pirates made the SCAC Conference Tournament both seasons.

Hightower is no stranger to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference basketball. He was a standout at Hendrix College and team captain his senior season. He led the team in assists three seasons and was the Hendrix College NCAA Division III assists leader. Hightower also led the Warriors in steals his senior year and was a member of the teams that advanced to the SCAC Conference Tournament semi-finals in 2008 and 2009. Hightower was also selected as the Carl Babcock Award Winner, awarded to one Hendrix College male athlete for character and leadership in athletics. He graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in economics and business.

Prior to Southwestern, Hightower was a graduate assistant and operations director for the men's basketball program at the University of Central Arkansas where he graduated with a Master of Business Administration in May 2012.

Hightower has been a head coach for the Georgetown Fury Select Club Basketball Program for two summers, coaching 20 junior varsity and varsity level players to numerous tournament championships statewide.
