SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference (SCAC), in conjunction with Hendrix College, will
conduct a silent auction to raise money for a local Conway charity,
the First United Methodist Church's food pantry, at its annual
men's and women's basketball tournament.
In six years of tournament competition, the SCAC has teamed with
its tournament host school to benefit a local charity. The FUMC
Food Pantry will receive all proceeds from the canned food drive
and autographed basketball sale.
Over the last six years, almost $13,000 and hundreds of pounds of
canned goods have been donated to various charities from the
generous donations made by patrons of the SCAC basketball
tournament.
There is no admission charged to any sessions of the tournament.
However, fans are encouraged to contribute canned food items upon
entrance to the various gymnasiums. Donation bins will be placed
near the entrance of each site on Friday (Conway High School and
Hendrix Wellness and Athletic Center) and in the lobby of the WAC
on Saturday and Sunday.
The SCAC collected $2,700 in last year's tournament autograph
basketball sale. Wilson Sports, which supplies the official
basketball of the annual tournament, has donated 24 collectible
basketballs emblazoned with the 2009 SCAC Tournament logo.
The autograph basketballs can be purchased for $150 each at both
sites on Friday and in the lobby of the WAC on Saturday and Sunday.
Once a ball is purchased, the owner may have it autographed by any
team participating in the tournament.
