The match will be played on the campus of Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.
- AROUND THE SCAC -
Centre finished its 2010 campaign with a grueling, hard fought loss to DePauw University in the semi-finals of the SCAC Championships. The Colonels defended well the entire match and created several opportunities in the second half and over times before falling 0-1 on a penalty corner three minutes into the second overtime period. The loss dropped Centre to an 11-5 mark on the year. Backs Sydney White and Leah Oberst played phenomenal matches with Patty Cowley also contributing mightily in goal.
For the second straight year, DePauw lost to
Rhodes in the SCAC championship game by a 2-1 score and in the
first minute of overtime. DePauw took the lead at 30:18 on Margaret
Ellis' unassisted goal. That lead stood until 58 seconds remained
when Rhodes forced the overtime with a goal. The Lynx then won it
just 59 seconds into the first overtime. Rhodes held a 10-6
advantage in shots and a 12-6 margin in corners. DePauw's Liz
Attewell finished with five. In the semifinals, Courtney Wood
scored in the second overtime period to lift the Tigers to a 1-0
victory over Centre. A defensive struggle resulted in a 0-0 score
by the end of regulation. Neither team scored in the first overtime
period and it was Wood’s score off a rebound that ended the
game midway through the second overtime. DePauw held a 20-4
edge in shots and put 11 shots on goal during the contest. DePauw
also tallied 16 corners, while Centre had five. Liz Attewell had
three saves for DePauw. The Tigers finished the season at 13-7 for
their 18th consecutive .500 or better season.
Hendrix wrapped up a monumental 2010 season with an
outstanding performance at the SCAC Championships in Greencaslte,
Ind. on Friday and Saturday. After three straight
opening-round losses to Sewanee in the postseason tournament,
Hendrix finally earned a second-round berth with a 4-3 win on
Friday. The Warriors were then eliminated from tournament
play after a 2-0 loss to top seed Rhodes College in their first
semifinal round in program history on Saturday. Hendrix ended
the season 6-10 overall and set program records in wins, points
(72), goals (34), assists (17), shots (199), largest margin of
victory (9-0 vs. Trine), best record (6-10, .375 pct), and
consecutive wins (4). Sophomore forward Kelly Rappe scored
the game-winner in the 79th minute to advance the Warriors past
Sewanee in an overtime thriller on Friday. Rappe’s
game-winner, her ninth goal of the year, was the exclamation mark
on a come-from-behind effort for Hendrix and a three-goal effort
for the sophomore forward. The Warriors took an early 1-0
lead on Rappe's first goal of the day in the fifth minute, however,
Sewanee would score three unanswered goals after the break inside a
seven minute span (40:25 to 47:53) to take a 3-1 lead. Rhodes
limited Hendrix to just four shots on-goal to earn a 2-0 decision
in the semifinals at McKeen Field. The top seeded Lynx edged
the Warriors 15-7 in shots and 12-4 in shots on-goal.
Rhodes’ junior Taylor Mills scored the opening goal in the
15th minute and then junior Sarah Kennedy netted the final score in
the 53rd minute off an assist from senior Lindsey Gurkovich.
Hendrix senior goalkeeper Alyssa Havens made 10 saves in the final
match of her collegiate career. Sophomore forward Kelly Rappe
and first year midfielder Jennifer Koller led the Warriors with two
shots on-goal apiece.
Rhodes finished out the conference portion of their
recording breaking season in dramatic fashion. The Lynx won
their second straight SCAC Championship with a 2-1 overtime victory
over DePauw. After dominating the first half the Lynx found
themselves down 1-0 but rallied to tie the game in the last minute
when senior Libby Feaster tipped in a penalty corner shot from
Charlie Wagner. Rhodes capitalized on the momentum and won
the match just 59 seconds into overtime on a goal by sophomore
Katie Faucher that was assisted by Lindsey Gurkovich. The
Lynx advanced to the championship game after a 2-0 win over Hendrix
in Saturday's semifinal with goals coming from juniors Sarah
Kennedy and Taylor Mills. Sarah Dockery earned the wins in
goal for the Lynx and picked up her sixth shutout on the
season. The Lynx (17-1, 10-0 SCAC) received their first bid
to the NCAA Tournament, earning a first round bye. Rhodes
will play the winner of Salisbury and Mary Washington at Messiah on
Saturday at 2 pm.
Sewanee took a 3-1 lead early in the second half after
being down 1-0 at halftime, but it wasn’t enough, as the
Hendrix Warriors mounted a furious rally to force overtime and
eventually top fourth-seeded Sewanee 4-3 in the first round of the
SCAC Field Hockey Championships. Fifth-seeded Hendrix jumped out to
an early lead when Kelly Rappe got the Warriors on the board early
in the contest. Hendrix held onto the 1-0 lead for the rest of the
half. Sewanee freshman Anne Booke provided the spark for the Tiger
effort early in the second half, when just five minutes in, she
took a pass off a penalty corner from Carly Grimm and connected,
tying it at 1-1. Caroline Carlin broke the tie just three minutes
later when she tallied an unassisted shot, making it 2-1 Sewanee.
Booke added to the lead slightly four minutes after Carlin’s
score, finding the goal on a penalty corner and giving the Tigers
the 3-1 lead. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Hendrix knocked in two
straight goals to even things up and force overtime. Rappe finished
things up for the Warriors at the 79:03 mark in the overtime
period. She put an unassisted shot past Sewanee goalie Anna Morrow
to give Hendrix the 4-3 victory. Sewanee wraps up the season with a
5-12 overall record and a 1-7 record in the SCAC.
