
SUWANEE, Ga. - Sewanee and Rhodes both picked up a pair of wins in non-conference action over the weekend. Centre remained atop the conference standings after taking a week off from action. This weekend the SCAC will return to conference action as Centre will travel to Rhodes and Hendrix.

Centre took last week
off from action and will return to the field this weekend on the
road against two SCAC opponents, Rhodes and Hendrix.
DePauw dropped a pair of one-goal matches during
the week and dropped to 3-4 on the season. On Wednesday, the Tigers
trailed Wittenberg, 3-1, but rallied to tie the contest at 3-3.
Wittenberg's game-winner came with just 3:28 left. Addie McDonnell
scored twice and Kimberly Trainor added the other. In Saturday's
game against Denison, the Big Red scored with just 1:42 remaining
in the second overtime to take the win. The Tigers held a 13-10
edge in shots in the loss.
Hendrix dropped a 2-0 affair to NAIA Lindenwood
University on Saturday and falls to 1-2 on the season. Junior
goalkeeper Alyssa Havens made 13 saves against the Lions and junior
defender Heather Newell led the team with five shots on-goal.
Junior midfielder Abby Coleman and first year forward Kelly Rappe
also added two of shots on-goal apiece.
Seven different Rhodes players scored 10 goals in
two games this weekend in route to an exciting 5-4 comeback victory
over Bellarmine and a 5-0 trouncing of Kenyon. In Saturday's match
the Lynx found themselves down 4-1 at the half to a potent
Bellarmine team but make some solid half time adjustments and
gained momentum as the second half progressed, scoring all four
goals in a 15 minute span late in the second half. The game winner
was scored by Libby Jones on an assist from Lindsey Gurkovich.
Kristen Lee and Sara Sanders logged defensive saves late in the
half to keep the Knights off the board with the help of goalkeeper
Valerie Clarke. The Lynx controlled play from the start in the
Kenyon match but were unable to find the back of the cage until the
25th minute of play when Sarah Kennedy scored on a deflection on a
penalty corner shot by Charlie Wagner. The Lynx had a better second
half scoring 4 goals including Wagner's first of the season and
Becca Diamond's first career goal. The Lynx are fired up for their
first home games next weekend which include a Friday matchup with
conference rival Centre at 3:30 and a Sunday game versus
Transylvania at Noon.
Sewanee field hockey went 2-0 this weekend with a
3-2 win over Division II Catawba on Friday and a 5-1 win over Sweet
Briar on Sunday. Caroline Carlin led Sewanee on the weekend with
four goals, including a hat trick on Sunday. Emily Detmer and
newcomer Anna Morrow split time in goal for the Tigers. Sewanee is
now 4-2 and will host DePauw on Saturday.
