LUKE FIERST OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman from Kerrville, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 8th.
Fierst totaled seven points, drilling a field goal and four extra points in Southwestern's 37-7 win over Austin College on Saturday.
The first-year kicker booted a 46-yard field goal on the Pirates' second drive of the game - the longest by a Southwestern kicker since the program was reinstated in 2013. It also marked the longest field goal by any SCAC kicker in 2016.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year receiver Joshua Scruggs of Texas Lutheran University made two solo tackles on kickoff return coverage and had a 12-yard kick return of his own in the Bulldogs' 38-28 home win over Trinity. In the second quarter, Scruggs raced down the field to stop a Trinity kick returner after just two yards, going from the Trinity 6 to the Trinity 8. Later in the second quarter, Scruggs limited another Trinity kick returner to a return of six yards, from the Trinity 12 to the Trinity 18.
