JUSTIN BROUSSARD OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior defensive end from Beaumont, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, October 15th. This marks the second week in a row Broussard has taken the award
Broussard set a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-game record with 5.5 sacks in Southwestern's 48-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Broussard posted 9 tackles, a pair of quarterback hurries, 5.5 sacks for a total loss of 36 yards, and one pass break-up in the victory.
Broussard anchored a Pirate defense that limited their opponents to only 148 yards of total offense, including just 20 on the ground. So far, Broussard has racked up 11.5 sacks this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore linebacker Emory Cuzze of Texas Lutheran University made the game-saving interception with 30 seconds left to play in the Bulldogs' 17-13 road win over Austin College. TLU ran out the clock after two Austin College timeouts and celebrated the program's 11th consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory. Cuzze finished the day with 9 total tackles, a sack of 8 yards, 1.5 total tackles for loss, an interception, and a quarterback hurry.
