SCAC Football Recap - Week Six

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a bye week for all programs, all four teams were back on the gridiron as the first week of conference play got underway at Southwestern and at Texas Lutheran.

In Georgetown, Southwestern posted 603 yards of total offense, including 320 on the ground, en route to a 37-7 victory over Austin College. The Pirates (2-3, 1-0 SCAC) scored in all four quarters to earn its first-ever SCAC win.

Sophomore quarterback Frederick Hoyer ran for 113 yards and a touchdown for SU, and he threw for 62 yards on 5 of 7 attempts. Senior quarterback Bryan Hicks added 221 passing yards and 36 more on the ground, and senior receiver Matt Gillen had eight catches for 147 yards.

In Seguin, junior quarterback Zach Galindo finished the night 23-for-31 for 269 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions as Texas Lutheran picked up its first win of the 2016 season with a 38-28 victory over Trinity.

Senior running back Marquis Barrole just missed his third consecutive 100-yard game for the Bulldogs as he ended the night with 99 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

With the win, TLU head coach Danny Padron picked up his 39th career win and moved past the late great Jim Wacker as Texas Lutheran's all-time wins leader. Wacker led the program to back-to-back NAIA-II National Championships in 1974 and 1975 and coached the Bulldogs from 1971 to 1975.
