Southwestern's Broussard, Texas Lutheran's Cuzze Earn D3football.com Team of the Week Honors

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference football student-athletes earned D3Football.com Team of the Week recognition after a successful weekend in league action.

Justin Broussard of Southwestern University, this week’s Defensive Player of the Week, earned the award for his work as a defensive end, while Emory Cuzze was recognized for his performance at linebacker.

Broussard set a new SCAC record with 5.5 sacks in the Pirates 48-0 victory over Trinity University. He posted nine tackles in the game, two quarterback hurries and one pass breakup. His 5.5 sacks amassed to 36 yards. This was the first time since 1994 that the Tigers have been shutout, and helped the Pirates move to 2-0 in conference play.

Cuzze, a sophomore from Texas Lutheran, made the game saving interception in the Bulldogs’ 17-13 road win over Austin College. Cuzze picked off a pass in the red zone by AC’s Cooper Woodyard with 30 seconds remaining in the clock. He finished the day with nine tackles, a sack of eight yards, one and a half tackles for loss, a quarterback hurry and the interception.

The two teams, both currently undefeated in SCAC play, will meet for the first time this weekend.
