WACO, Texas – The American Football Coaches Association released the first Division III Coaches’ Poll of the year Monday. The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (3-0) earned a No. 21 spot, earning 206 votes. Complete Poll
The No. 21 ranking is the highest-ever ranking for the Bulldogs in the AFCA Coaches’ Poll, and the highest ranking in any national poll as a Division III team.
The Bulldogs received votes in the D3Football.com Top 25 poll for the fourth week in a row, including the pre-season poll.
TLU ended the weekend with a 38-32 win over Louisiana College on the road. In the match-up, sophomore running back Marquis Barrolle rushed for 179 yards and four touchdowns, tying a school record for rushing touchdowns in a game. Barrolle earned his third consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Play of the Week honor with his performance against LC.
Barrolle currently leads the SCAC in rushing yards per game and rushing touchdowns, with 161.7 and 7, respectively.
TLU quarterback Trenton White also had an impressive showing in the game, going 24-for-36 with 269 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. White is second in the SCAC for passing yards per game, 212.0, and touchdowns, 4.
The Bulldogs also lead the conference in receiving touchdowns, Dustin Hannon with two, and sacks, Bryan Doolittle with 6.
Texas Lutheran will travel to Waxahachie, Texas to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University at Lumpkins Stadium Saturday at 6 p.m.
