Trinity's Kennemer; TLU's Johnson Earn Spot on D3football.com Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Trinity University wide receiver and special teams specialist Matt Kennemer and Texas Lutheran University defensive back Ty Johnson each earned honors on the D3football.com Team of the Week for their performances this past weekend.

The two award receipients were opponents this past weekend as Johnson's Bulldogs edged Kennermer's Tigers in a classic, 42-38. 

Kennemer, junior out of Friendswood, Texas, connected on 5-5 extra points, and fired up a 32-yard field goal – the first of his career. He also made four kick returns for 78 yards, and a 9-yard punt return. In addition, Kennemer snagged seven passes for 178 yards, which led the game. Kennemer also had two punts for 65 yards.

In the two-game season, Kennemer has amassed 504 all-purpose yards (178 yards receiving, 115 yards punting, 178 yards kick returns, and 33 yards punt returns), an average of 252 yards per match-up. He also has made 9-10 extra points.

Johnson, a sophomore out of Orange, Texas, had a career day on the defensive end of the field, picking up 21 total tackles including 12 solo tackles on the evening. He also had a forced fumble as he led a TLU defense that only allowed seven Tiger points in the second half.

Thus far, Johnson has 26 total tackles to lead the SCAC to go with two forced fumbles and a pass breakup.
