STERLING, Va. - Senior linebacker Adam Hay of
Centre College and senior defensive back Michael Sims of Millsaps
College were named to D3football National Team of the
Week for games played on Saturday, September 6.
Hay, a 2007 D3football.com All-American and 2008 D3football.com
Pre-season All-American, was named to the team of the week for the
third time in the last two years after posting a monster day in the
Colonels' win over visiting Hanover.
The 6-2, 220-pound senior defender picked up where he left off
in 2007 by posting a game-high 15 tackles, including six solo and
nine assisted, 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery
and intercepted a pass and returned it 46 yards setting up a
Colonel score. With his six solo tackles, Hay moved into seventh
place on Centre's career solo tackle list with 176.
After Sims tied a career-high with seven tackles (five solo) and
got his hands on 1 of 13 passes defended for the Majors on the
night in a 42-6 home opening win over Mississippi College, the 6-0,
170-pound senior defensive back was named to the
D3football.com National Team of the Week.
The award for Sims is the first weekly award of any kind in his solid career thus far, having played in all 30 career games since his freshman season in 2005. A product of Louisville High School, Sims has tallied 84 tackles (44 solo), 6.5 tackles-for-loss and picked off five total passes.
