Matthew Devillier, Centenary College, Pitcher of the Week (Week 1)

MATTHEW DEVILLIER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior right-handed pitcher from Lake Charles, La., has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Saturday, February 1 through Sunday, February 9. 

Devillier was superb in his season debut for the Gents as he tossed a complete-game shutout against the ETBU Tigers on Saturday. Devillier went seven innings and allowed just one hit with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 85 pitches, 56 for strikes, and faced just 25 batters in his seven innings of work. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Jake Thomas of Austin College tossed a gem in his season debut, surrendering one run on just five hits in a complete game victory against University of the Ozarks. Thomas struck out seven batters without allowing a walk in the win. Senior left-hander Conrad Voss of Dallas picked up a victory in the Crusaders' season-opening game at Sul Ross State with a seven inning complete game. He scattered six hits with one run allowed, walked one, and punched out five. Sophomore left-hander Kalob Bacak of St. Thomas became the first UST varsity baseball pitcher to win a game since 1969 when he led the Celts to an 11-7 victory over Howard Payne on Saturday. Bacak started and pitched five innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing four earned runs. He allowed only one run through his first four innings pitched Saturday. Sophomore left-hander Matthew Hickey of Texas Lutheran tossed 6.2 innings of one-run/one-hit baseball as the Bulldogs opened the 2020 season with a 12-2 win over Hendrix College. Hickey struck out nine and picked up the victory.
