JOE MCCORMACK OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior pitcher from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Monday, February 15th through Sunday February 21st.
McCormack hurled three perfect innings to pick up his first save of the season in last Friday's series opener against Centenary. McCormack, who missed all of last season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, retired all nine batters he faced, including four via strikeouts.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior pitcher Troy Nelson of Trinity University sported a 2.45 ERA in a pair of appearances last week, totaling eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Nathan Malinovsky of Texas Lutheran struck out three, walked one and allowed two earned runs in TLU's win over Hardin-Simmons. Sophomore pitcher Kaleb Kirk of Centenary College tossed the second complete game for the Gents this season, striking out nine en route to a 5-2 victory over Southwestern.
