
NICK JEWETT OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior first baseman from Phoenix, Ariz., has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played Monday, February 29th through Sunday, March 6th.
Jewett led fourth-ranked Trinity to a 3-1 record over the past week, including a doubleheader sweep at Texas Lutheran on Saturday to take the weekend series. The Tigers began with an 11-1 win over Concordia at home on Tuesday, then suffered an 8-5 loss to the Bulldogs to open the series on Friday night.
Trinity held on for a 2-1 win to start the DH, then ran away with an 11-4 victory in the series finale. Jewett hit .500 (7-14) for the week, scoring five runs and driving in two more, as well as drawing three walks to post an on-base percentage of .588 for the four games. He had three hits in each of the first two games against Texas Lutheran, then reached base twice in four plate appearances in the finale.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore catcher Chris Zapata of Centenary College had a key 2 RBI double to help blow open the game against nationally-ranked UT Tyler in the fourth. Senior outfielder Will Cates of Southwestern hit .538 (7-for-12) with a triple and two RBIs last week. Sophomore outfielder Riley Schaefer of Texas Lutheran went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in TLU's 8-5 win over No. 4-ranked Trinity on Friday night. Junior left fielder Thomas Oberg of Austin College batted .467 with a .500 on base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage, scoring four runs while driving in another.
