RYAN LUCERO OF
TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior left-hander from
Aurora, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Baseball
Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 25
through Sunday, March 3.
Lucero pitched a complete-game shutout to start
off the SCAC weekend series against Southwestern on Saturday
afternoon, sparking the Tigers to a three-game sweep over the
Pirates.
Lucero went the distance in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader, allowing just four hits and striking out eight batters in the seven-inning game. It marked his first shutout of the season, and it is the second time this year that he has struck out eight or more batters.
For the season, Lucero is 3-0 with a 1.72 ERA
for the Tigers. He pitched his first complete game and his first
shutout this week, and has allowed just six earned runs in 31.1
innings of work. Lucero has struck out 32 batters
against just seven walks, and is holding the opposition to a .191
batting average on the year.
