Centenary's Herrera Named NCBWA Division III Rookie of the Week

DALLAS, Texas -- The honors continue to come in for Centenary’s Tyler Herrera as he was named the Division III National Rookie of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association. Complete Release

Herrara, who was named SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week on Monday, turned in a dynamite performance on the mound last Friday night in the Gents’ series-opener against 16th-ranked Trinity University (Texas). He fired eight innings of three-hit shutout baseball against the Tigers and struck out nine Trinity batters. Herrera improved to 3-0 and lowered his team-leading ERA to a staggering 0.69. Herrera struck out a pair in the first, induced an inning-ending double play in the second, struck out two more in the fifth, and also struck out a pair in both the seventh and eighth innings.

The first-year left-hander is the second SCAC athlete to be recognized by the NCBWA for one of its national awards this season. TLU’s Joe Jimenez was named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week earlier this season.

Wabash College’s Kamden Earley was named the National Hitter-of-the-Week and Buena Vista University's Dalton Glenn was named the National Pitcher-of-the-Week.
