LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Week nine of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball season continued with four conference matchups on the slate.
Second-ranked Trinity (10-1 SCAC; 22-3 overall) spilt a pair of games against Concordia (Texas) on Tuesday, winning 9-0 following a 4-3 loss. The Tigers picked up doubleheader wins over Dallas on Sunday. In the opening game 16-1 victory, Tyler Pettit notched seven RBIs with a pair of home runs and a two-RBI single. Game two was led by junior Jack Wisniewski who powered the Tiger offense with four runs driven in. Senior reliever Matthew Thomas nabbed his first victory of the season from the mound with 5.2 innings of work to accompany his team-leading four saves.
No. 18 Centenary (12-3 SCAC; 27-5 overall) swept a three-game series against St. Thomas. Saturday’s doubleheader saw the Gents earn a 12-3 win in game one and a 10-0 victory in eight innings in game two. Senior Tyler Erickson was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI with junior Ben Bridges going 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in game one. Connor Lee picked up the win in game two with seven innings of work, allowing just three hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Sunday’s 7-5 victory was led by Cody Crowder and Chris Haggard, who combined to go 4-for-8 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Schreiner (6-9 SCAC; 12-20 overall) won its three-game series against Austin College over the weekend by scores of 15-4; 5-2 and 7-5. Four Mountaineers led the way in game one as Chance Goins, Reece Hohhertz, Jeffrey Williams, and Devin Hooper combined for three doubles and nine RBIs. Schreiner finished its three-game series with a 7-5 win. The seven runs scored by the Mountaineers were fueled by quintet of players, including Isaiah Hernandez who had a double and three RBIs.
Texas Lutheran (10-2 SCAC; 19-9 overall) went 3-1 over the week, with a 12-3 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor leading into the Bulldogs’ picking up 7-5 and 13-7 doubleheader wins over Southwestern, in their three-game series against the Pirates. TLU's Cullen Motsinger and Tyler Cauley hit home runs in the first game of the doubleheader, and Landon Weatlery improved to 3-1 with the win in game one. The senior struck out eight and allowed five earned runs. Tyler Post was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI in the 13-7 victory.
Southwestern (10-5 SCAC; 15-14 overall) began it’s week, Tuesday, with a pair of wins over Hardin-Simmons, 12-2 and 5-3. The Pirates met Texas Lutheran over the weekend, salvaging one win in the three-game series. The 6-4 victory was led by Ted Lobkowicz and Maxwell Mims, who combined to go 6-for-9 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
The tenth week of SCAC Baseball continues this week with four conference matchups, highlighted by No.2 Trinity hosting No.18 Centenary.
