Texas Lutheran's Cauley, Trinity's Goodrich Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Recognition

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Texas Lutheran University senior outfielder Tyler Cauley and Trinity University senior designated hitter Michael Goodrich have been elected to the 2020 Academic All-District 8 NCAA Division III Baseball Team.

Selected by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the program recognizes top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Cauley and Goodrich are now eligible for election to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, to be announced June 9.

Cauley, an accounting major, is in the five-year program to obtain concurrently his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in accountancy. Cauley holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.59.

A four-year starter for the Bulldogs, Cauley is in the top-five all-time at TLU for home runs (28), RBI (151) and slugging percentage (.654).

Cauley is a career .346 hitter with 39 doubles, 13 triples, 168 hits, and 25 stolen bases.

As the starting right-fielder, Cauley helped lead TLU to the 2018 NCAA Division III Baseball World Series in Appleton, Wis. The Bulldogs finished as the national runner-up.

With Cauley on the team, the Bulldogs have won an NCAA DIII Regional Championship, a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and an SCAC Regular-Season Championship. The Bulldogs played in the NCAA DIII post-season in 2018 and 2019. The Bulldogs hosted a 2019 regional tournament.

Cauley and the Bulldogs have a combined record of 103-49 (.678) overall and 39-15 (.722) in the SCAC over the past three-plus seasons.

Goodrich is a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. He is a member of Trinity's Dean's List and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Academic Honor Roll. He was selected for this year's SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Prior to the start of the season, Goodrich was named a Division III Player to Watch by Collegiate Baseball. He earned All-SCAC First Team accolades in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Goodrich played and started in 12 games of Trinity's abbreviated 2020 campaign. He hit .318, while scoring and driving in 10 runs each, and smacked a home run in the process. Goodrich posted a slugging percentage of .409 and an on-base percentage of .464.

During his career, Goodrich batted .313, scored 97 runs and drove in 99, while plastering 18 round-trippers and 26 doubles. He registered a .435 on-base percentage, and a .532 slugging percentage.

The Tigers finished the season with an 11-2 record and earned a ranking as high as #2 in the nation by the D3baseball.com Poll.
