LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Week seven of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball season featured a national top-10 matchup between No. 1 Trinity and No. 8 Texas Lutheran.

Despite falling in the series opener, No. 8 Texas Lutheran (15-6, 2-1) took the weekend series with No. 1 Trinity with a pair of wins in the double-header on Saturday. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs also picked up a 13-1 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor. The TLU offense was led by sophomore outfielder Cullen Motsinger who went 8-for-13 at the plate (.615), including a pair of 4-for-5 showings, scoring four runs and collecting two RBI. Senior infielder Thomas Varner chipped in with five hits, five runs and five RBI while junior second baseman Austin Colon added six hits and six RBI. In three appearances last week for TLU, freshman left-hander Matthew Hickey struck out four, allowing no earned runs through 5.2 innings pitched. 

No. 1 Trinity (17-5, 4-2) ended the week 2-2 earning wins over Our Lady of the Lake and Texas Lutheran in the series opener. Senior outfielder Jake Martin went 11-for-15 at the plate and slugged 1.100, generating six extra base hits, including two home runs, six runs and six RBI. The Tigers also saw contributions from junior outfielder Rafe Chaumette who posted a .467 batting average (7-for-15) with a .579 on base percentage and junior catcher Michael Goodrich tallied five hits and three RBI over the four-game span. Freshman right-hander Arjun Thakar sat eight batters while allowing three hits and one earned run through 6.1 relief innings in game one of the double-header with TLU on Saturday. 

After dropping non-conference games to Texas-Dallas and Wisconsin-Platteville Southwestern (13-6, 4-2) rebounded to sweep Austin College (5-11, 1-5) in conference play. Sophomore infielder Seth Sparks batted .579 (11-for-14), driving in four runs and scoring four of his own. Junior outfielder Byron Dowdell II produced nine RBI and four home runs going 9-for-20 at the plate and slugging 1.050, while classmate Daniel Montgomery Jr. scored 10 runs and drove in seven. On the mound, junior Colton Hunter struck out eight, allowing three earned runs in eight innings of work in the game three victory over Austin College.

Centenary (12-12-1, 4-2) took its three-game series with Dallas over the weekend. For the Gents, sophomore infielder Preston Ludwick was impressive on offense, going 10-for-12 at the plate (.833), including a 5-for-5 performance in the final game of the series, slugging 1.500 and posting an .857 on base percentage. Ludwick hit for the cycle over the weekend, collecting eight RBI in the process. Senior infielder Andrew Russell chipped in with five hits, four RBI and three runs while junior Cody Crowder put together four hits and one RBI. Sophomore RHP Connor Cudd collected a pair of wins with three strikeouts and allowed no earned runs through 4.2 innings of relief. 

In addition to its series opening win against Centenary, Dallas (12-11, 1-5) split its non-conference double-header with Howard Payne. Junior Nathan Patton went 6-for-16 at the plate, driving in nine runs while drawing seven walks while senior Jordan Stickler posted a .600 on base percentage, scoring nine runs. Senior Josh Abalos accounted for six runs and classmate Luke Boylston collected six RBI. Junior LHP Conrad Voss picked up the win in the series opener against Centenary, striking out six while allowing two earned runs in through six innings of work.

Schreiner (9-15, 2-1) went 1-3 in non-conference action last week with a 5-2 victory over Chicago over the weekend. In the win, freshman Dylan Blevins led the way, going 2-for-3 at the plate (.667) and scoring two runs in the process. Sophomore catcher Dominick Garcia added two hits and two RBI while senior infielder Osman Quintana notched three RBI. Freshman right-hander Devin Hooper tossed 6.0 innings, striking out four while allowing two earned runs to earn the win for the Mountaineers while junior Josh Gilliam picked up his eighth save of the season. 

The SCAC baseball schedule continues on Monday when Trinity hosts Chicago.
