LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Week six of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball season saw the opening of conference play as Schreiner hosted Southwestern, Dallas welcomed Trinity and Austin College took on Centenary. 

No. 3 Trinity (15-3, 3-0) did not drop a game last week, defeating Millikin 11-9 on Tuesday, then sweeping Dallas (10-8, 0-3) in its three game series over the weekend. The Tigers were led by junior outfielder Rafe Chaumette who posted a .563 batting average (9-for-16) and a .579 on base percentage while collecting nine hits and as many RBI. Senior infielder Logan Morrison boasted a .706 slugging percentage, contributing eight hits and nine runs scored. On the mound, junior LHP James Nittoli allowed two earned runs through 7.0 innings in game two against the Crusaders and sophomore right-hander Corey Carter earned a save and a win against Millikin and Dallas, respectively, while tallying 10 strike outs between the two outings.

Schreiner (8-12, 2-1) went 3-1 last week, downing Blackburn on Tuesday before taking a pair of games in its three-game series with Southwestern. Junior infielder Josh Gilliam fared well on both sides of the ball, batting .563 (8-for-15) and posting a .632 on base percentage while logging two saves and three strikeouts through 2.1 innings pitched. Junior infielder Reece Hohhertz and sophomore infielder Jeffrey Williams added seven RBI each. Hohhertz finished the week with six hits while slugging .733. Sophomore left-hander Garrett Whitley earned a pair of wins last week, striking out six while allowing four earned runs.

Despite dropping a pair of games to Schreiner, Southwestern (10-4, 1-2) went 2-2, defeating last year's Div. III National Champion Texas-Tyler and taking the opening game of its three game series with the Mountaineers. The Pirates offense was paced by junior infielder Daniel Montgomery Jr. who went 6-for-13 at the plate (.463), notching six RBI and four stolen bases. Senior catcher Colby Schmidt slugged .692 with a .571 on base percentage and freshman outfielder Ted Lobkowicz went 4-for-10 at the plate (.417) and posted a .692 slugging percentage. Freshman RHP Benjamin Ludwig posted a 1.64 ERA through 11.0 innings for the Pirates, striking out six on the week. Ludwig earned the win against Texas-Tyler, allowing no runs with three strikeouts in six innings of work.

Centenary (10-11, 2-1) took its three-game series with Austin College, 2-1. The Gents offense accounted for 36 runs through three games with sophomore infielder Chris Haggard leading the charge with six hits and five RBI while going 6-for-13 at the plate (.462). Sophomore infielder Peyton Cormane chipped in, batting .417 (5-for-12) with a .563 on base percentage while Preston Ludwick went 4-for-11 (364), scoring five runs and five RBI while collecting two extra base hits. Freshman Josh McLean earned the win in the series opener after giving up no earned runs in 5.2 innings of relief. 

Austin College (5-8, 1-2) split its games last week after picking up a 7-6 victory over Ecclesia and a 4-2 win against Centenary to close out the weekend. Senior infielder Brett Taff went 7-for-15 at the plate (.467), slugging .933, while tallying seven runs, six RBI and two home runs. Junior Cody Goggins added seven hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Sophomore right-hander Ryan Culp picked up the Roos' first conference win of the season, posting a 1.12 ERA in 3.0 innings out of the bullpen.

In non-conference action, No. 6 Texas Lutheran (12-5) captured the 2-1 series win with Wisconsin-Platteville. After trailing 11-0 after four innings, the Bulldogs took the series’ rubber match with an incredible 15-14 come-from-behind victory on Sunday. At the plate, junior second baseman Austin Colon went 5-for-12 (.417) with five RBI and two extra base hits while junior outfielder Tyler Cauley slugged .800 with six RBI. In the second game of the series, Chase Cutler earned his first victory of the season with seven strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Senior pitcher Dylan Murrell picked up the win in the series finale, striking out eight while allowing two earned runs through 5.0 innings.

The SCAC baseball schedule continues this week highlighted by a national Top-10 intraconference matchup as No. 3 Trinity plays host to No. 6 Texas Lutheran for a three-game weekend series.
