LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Week two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball schedule saw the 2019 debuts of Austin College and Southwestern.

In the second week of the season, No. 3 Texas Lutheran remained unbeaten after defeating Hardin-Simmons in all three games of its weekend series. Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by freshman first baseman Dalton Kinder who posted a .545 hitting percentage adding six hits and four runs scored, including a home run. Two other hitters knocked the ball out of the park for TLU, juniors Tyler Cauley and Nick Gardoni. Senior infielder Thomas Varner also tacked on four runs for the Bulldogs. On the mound, senior RHP Drew Waller threw three innings of relief, posting a perfect ERA while picking up a save in the process. Junior right-hander Landon Weatherly also contributed a perfect ERA in 5.2 innings pitched with five strikeouts and while allowing seven hits. 

Despite dropping its series opener with Birmingham Southern, No. 4 Trinity bounced back to pick up pair of wins over the Panthers. For the Tigers, sophomore infielder Jack Wisniewski tallied four runs scored with a .400 batting average and four hits. Senior outfielder Jake Martin and sophomore outfielder Jack Vonderhaar notched three RBIs, each, with Martin adding five hits and Vonderhaar hitting the only home run of the weekend for Trinity. In 8.1 innings of shutout work on Saturday, junior left hander James Nittoli recorded two strikeouts and allowed six hits, holding BSC hitters to a .200 batting average. 

In its season-opening three game series with Sul Ross State over the weekend, Southwestern went 2-1 with victories on Friday and Sunday. For the Pirates, sophomore outfielder Hayden Craig cashed in seven hits for a week-leading six runs on a .538 batting average while collecting three RBIs. Seniors Kevin Stein and Colby Schmidt chipped in with four RBIs, each and sophomore infielder Seth Sparks posted a .500 batting average with seven hits, two runs and two RBIs. Sophomore Austin Smith faired well on the mound, recording 16 strikeouts, in the complete game over Sul Ross State. He allowed five hits and no earned and the 16 strikeouts tied for the sixth most in a single game in SCAC history. 

Centenary defeated Millsaps, 3-2, on Tuesday in its lone victory of the week. Junior Cody Crowder and seniors Cameron Guin and Andrew Russell produced a run each with Crowder contributing an RBI. Guin and Russell also added two and three hits, respectively, while sophomore Preston Ludwick knocked in a run. On the mound, senior Kyle Barron picked up the win after pitching an inning of relief, giving up one run and two hits while Joshua Gatewood earned the save.

After picking up a win on Friday in the series opener, Dallas dropped their next two games over the weekend against LeTorneau In Friday’s victory, senior trio Jordan Stickler, Luke Boylston and Jessup Scott recorded a hit and a run each while junior Zachary Taylor along with seniors Paul Scioli and Josh Abalos all contributed an RBI. Junior right-hander Conrad Voss grabbed the victory after 7.0 innings of work, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. 

Austin College dropped a two game series at Louisiana College over the weekend.

The SCAC baseball season continues on Tuesday when Austin College, Centenary and Trinity hit the diamond in non-conference action.
