Southwestern's Smith Collects Second National Team of the Week Honor

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Southwestern University sophomore pitcher Austin Smith from Cedar Park, Texas, collected his second D3baseball.com Team of the Week nod this season for games played between Monday, April 15 through Sunday, April 21 after helping the Pirates clinch an SCAC Tournament berth for the seventh consecutive season.

Smith threw a complete game no-hitter in the Pirates’ series opener against Dallas to spark Southwestern to a three-game sweep of the Crusaders and improve to 22-14 overall, the most wins since 2009 for SU. The sophomore recorded his fifth double-digit strikeout game in a row and his seventh this season, striking out 10 in his seven innings of work. His performance raises his strikeout total to 96 which leads the SCAC and dropped his ERA to 2.42, which is currently third-best in the conference.

The right-hander previously took home national Team of the Week honors back in February following a 16-strikeout performance in a victory over Sul Ross State.

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. Smith marks the fifth Team of the Week honor for the SCAC in 2019.
