LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern sophomore right-hand pitcher Austin Smith from Cedar Park, Texas was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for games played between February 11 and February 17 after helping lead the Pirates to a win over Sul Ross State last Friday.
Smith picked up the 7-3 decision on Friday in the Pirates' season opener, producing 16 strikeouts in the effort. His 16 strikeouts are tied for the sixth most in a single game in SCAC history. The sophomore pitched a complete game with a 0.00 ERA while giving up five hits and two walks.
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the second Team of the Week of the 2019 season.
