SCAC Baseball Recap - Week Eight

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Conference play continued for six of the league's seven baseball teams, while the group combined for a 3-3 record in non-conference action.

Trinity University, Centenary College and Southwestern University all won their conference series over the weekend, with the Tigers and the Gents each posting 3-0 sweeps and SU winning 2-1. Texas Lutheran University also earned a series win, going 3-0 in a non-conference battle against the University of Chicago.

No. 2 Trinity dominated last week, scoring more than 10 runs in each game, including 26 in the series opener. The Tigers outscored Austin College 55-15 throughout the three-game stand to move to 17-1 on the season and 6-0 in league action. In Trinity's 26-4 win over the 'Roos, the Tigers fired off five home runs, including a grand slam in the sixth inning from Parker Cormack. They recorded three more homers throughout the next two games. After the series, the 'Roos moved to 6-9 and 0-3 in league play.

Centenary earned a conference sweep against Schreiner University, with pitching being key in the first two wins. Kaleb Kirk and Matthew Devillier each posted complete game wins, with Kirk going 9.0 and allowing just one earned run and Devillier earning the win in a run-rule game, allowing just three hits in the 10-0 shutout. Centenary moved to 14-7 with the wins, now 6-0 in conference play, while Schreiner is now 10-16 and 1-5 in the SCAC.

Southwestern had an exciting weekend in the series against the University of Dallas. In Saturday's series' opener, the Pirates entered the bottom of the ninth inning down 8-7, but with Byron Dowdell II up to the plate with two outs, he hit a two-run homer to earn the walk-off victory. Dallas came out strong in the second half of the doubleheader Saturday, earning an 11-3 win. The Pirates moved to 8-10 andd 2-4 in SCAC play, while Dallas moved to 8-15, 1-5 in the SCAC.

In non-conference action, No. 19 TLU earned a 3-0 sweep of Chicago. The Bulldogs started the series off with a strong pitching performance from Dylan Drgac, who went all nine innings, allowing just five hits and no runs. The Bulldogs went on to win the game 2-0 to move to 20-4 on the season.
