LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Centenary College earned a spot in the D3baseball.com top 25 this week, while they moved up in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll. Texas Lutheran University enters the ABCA rankings at No. 23
The Gents moved to 19-3 overall and 6-0 in league action last weekend, while extending their winning streak to 12 games. The Bulldogs are now 14-7 this season and 5-1 in the SCAC.
Centenary moved up four spots in the ABCA poll, from No. 12 to No. 8, while Texas Lutheran entered the poll at #23. In the D3Baseball.com rankings, Centenary moved into the poll after receiving the most votes last week among unranked teams. The Gents are no #15, while TLU is receiving votes (21).
Centenary has had an explosive offense this season, racking up 254 runs - which leads all Division III - through the 22 contests, while allowing just 64 from opponents. The Gents rank ninth in the nation in team batting average (.375), while they lead the country in hits, doubles, triples and sacrifice flies. They're also ranked second in the nation in home runs and stolen bases.
Individually, Centenary's Cody Crowder leads the country in hits with 26 this season, followed by Ian Graham and Michael Schimpf, each tied for eighth with 22 hits. Aaron Quintanilla leads Division III with 20 runs, while Schimpf is right behind with 19 and Zane Wilkinson is fourth with 18.
The Bulldogs are ranked second in Division III in double plays with 16 for the year, while coming in at No. 5 in triples, 7. TLU is also ranked in the nation's top 20 in doubles, 14th, sacrifice bunts, seventh, sacrifice flies, fifth and stolen bases, 14th.
The Gents continue their schedule tonight against No. 6 University of Texas - Tyler. The Patriots are the last team to hand Centenary a loss, coming on the road on February 19. Texas Lutheran plays tonight as well, facing off against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Centenary will continue the conference schedule over the weekend with a three-game home series against Schreiner University, while Texas Lutheran faces Austin College at home.
