Texas Lutheran's Malinovsky Named D3Baseball.com Preseason All-America

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Texas Lutheran University’s Nathan Malinovsky was selected as a D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Wednesday.

Malinovsky, a sophomore right-hander from New Braunfels, Texas, was the 2016 SCAC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, becoming the first player in league history to earn both awards in the same season.

In his first season, he led the league with a 1.97 earned run average, while tying the conference lead with nine wins. His six complete games, 87.0 innings pitched and two shutouts were also top marks in the SCAC.

Malinovsky ended his season with a standout performance in the conference tournament, pitching all nine innings, while allowing just one unearned run in a 3-1 win over Southwestern University.

He posted a career-high eight strikeouts twice, with the most recent coming against Southwestern in a 1-0 Bulldogs win.

The only team able to hand Malinovsky a loss in his first season was the eventual national champions, Trinity University. The Tigers earned a 2-1 win in that game.
