Baseball Recap (Week 4) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Only three teams were able to get games in this past weekend as a total of seven games and two series were canceled this weekend due to terrible weather in the Texas area. 

Austin College
The 'Roos non-conference series against Southwestern was canceled this weekend due to inclement weather. Austin College will return to action this weekend as they take on Centenary College in a three game, non-conference series.

Centenary College 
The Gents were able to get a pair of non-conference games in against Texas Lutheran, splitting the games, winning 7-3 and falling 25-7, before the rubber match of the series was canceled due to inclement weather. Holden Novak (2-0) garnered his second win of the season as hurler tossed a complete, seven innings. Novak fanned three and walked a pair while allowing one earned run. The Maroon and White jumped on the board early in the opening game scoring five runs in the first inning. Aaron Quantanilla and Kody Carson each recorded RBI to jump start the scoring. Ian Graham laced a two-run RBI single to extend the Gents’ lead to 4-0. Cole Lavergne crossed the dish for the final run of the frame. Centenary gathered 10 hits in game two led by multiple hit efforts from Sebastien and Brooks Williams. The Gents will battle Austin College this upcoming weekend in a three game, non-conference series.

University of Dallas
The Crusaders non-conference series against Schreiner was canceled this weekend due to inclement weather. Dallas will return to action this weekend as they take on East Texas Baptist University in a three game series.

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers non-conference series against Dallas  was canceled this weekend due to inclement weather. Schreiner will take on DeSales and Cardinal Stritch this weekend and will then return to action this weekend as they take on Trinity University in a three game, non-conference series.

Southwestern University
The Pirates non-conference series against Austin College was canceled this weekend due to inclement weather. Southwestern will return to action this weekend as they take on Texas Lutheran University in a three game, non-conference series.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs went 1-1 this past weekend, earning a split with Centenary College before the rubber match was washed out due to inclement weather. After falling in game one, 7-3, the Bulldogs exploded for 25 runs in the second game for a 25-7 win. TLU racked up more runs than hits in that game two blowout, amassing 21 total hits on the night. Of those 21 knocks, only three were of the extra-base variety. There were 18 singles on the evening. Tony Gennusa and Austin Frick each claimed a double, and Zach Jacobs notched a triple. Ten different Bulldogs notched at least one hit in that second game, with Gennusa leading the way. The senior went 4-for-5 from the plate, racking up three RBI and three runs scored. His 20 total runs this year leads the SCAC. Jacobs was slotted right behind Gennusa in the lineup in the two-hole. The senior shortstop went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Alejandro Gutierrez and Riley Schaefer also racked up three hits apiece. Schaefer, a freshman, scored five runs on the night. Texas Lutheran will take on Southwestern University this upcoming weekend in a three game, non-conference series. 

#18 Trinity University
The 16th-ranked Tiger baseball team got a win in their only matchup of the weekend, defeating Cardinal Stritch, 7-3. Lefthander Ryan Gray (1-0) took the victory in his first start and fourth appearance of the campaign. Gray hurled an excellent game, throwing 5.1 innings of no-hit ball to start the day.  He finished by allowing two runs on three hits, walking one, and fanning seven Cardinal Stritch batters. The bat of Jose Santos continued to be hot, as he hit 2-3 with one RBI, and a triple.  The speedy Santos also scored three runs and stole two bases. His triple came in the bottom of the second inning, as Trinity got on the board for the first of two runs. Santos is hitting .517 (15-29) this season. Andrew Waters also went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Liam Rihela entered the game late in game, driving in a pair of runs in a four-run eighth for the Tigers. Trinity will host DeSales on Thursday before taking on Schreiner University in a three game, non-conference series.
