LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Six SCAC baseball teams were in action this past weekend as the SCAC Baseball Season begins to rev up all across the board.
Austin College
The 'Roos only played one game this past weekend, falling to
Castleton at home, 6-2. Blaine Tew absorbed the
loss for Austin College, surrendering six runs on 10 hits in 5.1
innings of work to bring his record to 1-1 this
season. Todd Takabuki went 2-for-2 with a
double to lead Austin College offensively, as the 'Roos were
limited to seven hits on the day. Jeremy Halford and Austin Dudley
each had a RBI for the 'Roos. Austin College returns to action on
Friday as they welcome in the Southwestern Pirates for a three game
non-conference series.
Centenary College
The Gents outing against Texas-Tyler was postponed last
week due to weather. The Gents return to action this weekend as
they take on Texas Lutheran in a three game non-conference
series.
University of Dallas
The Crusaders had a tough weekend, going 0-4 including a
sweep by Trinity University. Dallas struggled in their first outing
of the weekend, falling 17-2 to Castleton at home. Against the
Tigers, the Crusaders dropped a heartbreaking 6-5 contest, giving
up three runs in the ninth. Martin Cronin received
a no decision after six innings of giving up four runs (one earned)
on seven hits in the start. The righty walked two and struck out
three. A trio of players for Dallas collected multi-hit
efforts with two including Alex Stack, Nolan
Kipp, and Luciano Villanueva. In a 7-3 loss in the second game,
Trevor Keele had a big game for UD with a 3-for-4
showing, including his second homer of the year and a pair of
RBI. Villanueva was the other member of the Navy
and White with a multiple hit performance with two. He added the
other RBI. Nothing went right for the Crusaders in the final game,
falling 12-0 in seven innings. Villanueva had a pair of hits
in the matchup. Dallas goes to 4-6 on the season thus far, but had
lost four games in a row. They look to get back on track this week,
taking on LeTourneau on Wednesday following by a three game
non-conference series against Schreiner
University.
Schreiner University
It was a tough weekend for the Schreiner Mountaineers,
going 0-4 this past weekend thanks to a sweep by Whitworth. In an
18-11 game one loss, things got away from the Mountaineers as a big
third inning led to an 18-11 defeat. Marco Carreon,
Connor Ver Schuur and Jayme Kidder and Quinton Volovar all had two
hits in the game for Schreiner. Volovar also threw out a pair of
Whitworth runners attempting to steal. The next day was highlighted
by an absolute gem from Kidder went all seven innings,
allowing just the lone run on four hits in a 1-0 (7) loss. The
Mountaineers would fall in the second game of the day, 14-5. In the
finale, the Mountaineers got a pair of hits from Van Schuur, but it
would not prevent the sweep as the Pirates earned a 14-8 win.
Schreiner has now lost eight game in a row, but will look to
rebound as the Mountaineers travel to the University of
Dallas for a non-conference series with the
Crusaders.
Southwestern University
The Pirates went 2-1 over the weekend in Jackson to run
their mark to 4-3 on the season. Jared Bogosian and Jake
Pawelek went 1-2 from the plate with one walk to lead
Southwestern offensively in a 5-2 win over Fontbonne. Jeremy
Rice earned the win going six innings, allowing one run,
unearned, on one hit while walking two and four strikeouts. The
following day, the Pirates fell to Wheaton 11-6 before ending the
weekend with a 9-8 victory over Washington University. Against the
Thunder, Ethan Hallmark led at the plate, going 3-5
with one RBI and one run scored while Jake
Pawelek drove in two RBIs. Clayton
Haag garnered the loss, allowing five runs on three hits
while walking two and striking out two. Against the
Bears, Robert Wehman, Scott
Gelbart and Tyler Bludau had two
hits each in the win. Noah Clark earned the
win, allowing no runs on one hit with two walks and six strikeouts.
The Pirates will hit the road to take on Austin College this
upcoming weekend in Sherman, a non-conference three game
series.
Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs went 2-2 this past weekend, earning a win over Mary
Hardin-Baylor before dropping two out of three to Hardin-Simmons.
In an 8-7 win over the Crusaders, two errors in one play allowed
the Bulldogs to tie things up in the ninth inning, and
a Klaus Bohrmann sacrifice fly in the same
inning secured a wild win for the Bulldogs. Hayden Hunt was 2-for-3
with two runs scored while Logan Domino earned the win. The
Bulldogs dropped the opening game of the series to Hardin-Simmons
as Aaron Aleman suffered his first loss
of the season on the mound, falling to 2-1 on the year. Justin Law
led the way with a pair of hits. The following day, Dylan
Drgac earned the 5-2 win on the mound, improving
to 2-0. Law and Matt King each had two hits and a RBI in the
victory. However, the Cowboys would take the series with a walk off
win in extra inning, 4-2. Lincoln Baylor, Alejandro Gutierrez, Law,
and King all had two hits in the outing with Law driving in a run.
THe Bulldogs run their record to 8-4 and will return to action this
upcoming weekend, taking on Centenary in a three game
non-conference series.
#16 Trinity University
The 16th-ranked Tiger baseball team went 3-0 over the
weekend earning a sweep over the University of Dallas in a
non-conference series. The Tigers started the weekend with a
come-from-behind 6-5 win. A Crusader pick off attempt at second
turned into an errant throw and capped a three run bottom of the
ninth inning for the win. Connor Moore finished 3-4 with
two runs and one RBI in his 2015 debut, leading the Trinity
offensive attack. Jose Santos also had a pair of hits. The Tigers
followed that up with a 7-3 win later that afternoon
as Trent Rape earned the Trinity victory, yielding three
runs on seven hits, and striking out eight Dallas batters.
Brody Fehmel finished 2-3 on the day with a two run
bomb, while Jeremy Wolf and Carter McEachern had two hits each. The
Tigers earned the sweep with a 12-0 shutout win as
Michael Walker (3-0) tossed six shutout innings to open
the game, recording six strikeouts, and allowing just two
hits. Colin Serkowski led a trio of Tigers with multiple
hits, going 3-3 with a double and three runs scored. Wolf and
Santos both went 2-3 with two RBI each, while Wolf added two
runs scored as well. The Tigers are now 7-2 on the season and
return to action on Tuesday as they welcome in Mary Hardin-Baylor.
They followed that up on Saturday as they host Cardinal
Stritch.
