Trinity Mauls Salisbury to Stave Off Elimination at NCAA Baseball Championship

APPLETON, Wis. - The Trinity University Tigers bounced back from a tough opening day loss at the NCAA Championship, exploding for 14 hits en rout to a 9-1 win over the Salisbury University Seagulls at Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Interview with Tim Scannell, Matt Tindall, and Jose (Pepe) Santos

Matt Tindall was terrific for the Tigers, pitching 7.2 innings, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out 10 batters in the contest.

Early on, Tindall was in complete control, striking out seven Seagulls through three innings of play.

His efforts were rewarded in the bottom half of the third as the Tigers exploded for five runs on six hits thanks in part to a two RBI triple from Jose Santos. Brody Fehmel and Colin Serkowski each drove in a run while Connor Moore was able to score on a wild pitch

Salisbury looked to keep within distance of the Tigers, connecting on a solo blast in the top half of the fourth, but Tindall was not fazed as proceeded to shut down the Seagulls.

The Tigers put the game out of reach in the seventh inning, scoring four move run to take a commanding eight run lead. Santos again came through big with a two RBI single while Jeremy Wolf and Drew Butler each drove in a run.

Tindall handed the game off to Troy Nelson who pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless ball, allowing only one hit in the process, and earning the Tigers their very first win at the NCAA Baseball Championship. 

Santos finished 2-for-4 with four RBI while Moore and Butler each had three hits a piece with both scoring two runs in the process. Fehmel finishd with a pair of doubles while Carter McEachern had a double and a pair of runs. 

Trinity now stands at 38-13 and will continue down the elimination game path beginning tomorrow at 1:15. The Tigers will take on the loser of Emory University and th University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, who met late Saturday night. If the Tigers are victorious, they will reach the Pool B championship and take on the winner of the before mentioned game, needing a win to force an if necessary game on Monday.
