Trinity Trio Selected to NCAA Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team

APPLETON, Wis. - Trinity University senior Matt Tindall, and juniors Drew Butler and Connor Moore were elected to All-Tournament Teams for their part at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships.

All three players were selected for the D3baseball.com All-Tournament Team, while Butler and Moore also made the NCAA All-Tournament Team. The Tiger standouts were instrumental in Trinity's third-place finish at the eight-team, double-elimination NCAA Championship at Appleton, Wisconsin.

Tindall earned the distinction of being Trinity's first-ever winning pitcher at the D-III College World Series by beating Salisbury. He hurled for 7.2 innings and allowed one earned run on five hits, and struck out 10 batters. Tindall completed the season with a 6-1 record, along with posting three saves and a 2.51 ERA.

Butler batted .500 in the five games, going 11-for-22 at the plate. He drove in eight runs, scored six times, and swatted a home run and two doubles. In the lopsided win over Wisconsin-La Crosse, Butler collected two hits, four RBI, two runs, and smacked a round-tripper and a double. During the season, Butler led the Tiger team with a .398 batting average, and was first in RBI with 55. He placed second with four home runs to his credit.

Moore hit a team-high .520 in the tournament, with a mark of 13-for-25. He amassed eight RBI, eight runs, as well as a double and triple. Moore almost hit the cycle against Wisconsin- La Crosse, with two singles, a double, and a triple, while driving in five runs and scoring four. During the 2015 season, Moore was third on Trinity's team with a .358 batting average, and was second in runs scored, with 48. He was the leading base-stealer, going 17-23 in the infield.

Led by 17th-year Head Coach Tim Scannell, the Tigers made the trip to the NCAA Championship event for the first time, and came within one game of advancing to the best-of-three finals series. The Tigers began the tournament with a 9-7 loss to Emory (GA) University, but bounced back to defeat Salisbury (MD) University  9-1. Trinity won the next two matchups, beating Emory 10-1, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 16-6. In the semifinals, Wisconsin-La Crosse prevailed 10-7, as the Tigers completed the campaign with a 40-14 record. The 40 victories tied a Trinity record for wins in a single season.
