Trinity's Bianchi, Austin College's Tew Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outfielder Christian DeBlanc and senior pitcher Dwayne Snider from Texas Lutheran University have been named the inaugural SCAC Baseball Players of the Week of the 2014 season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 10th – February 16th

CHRIS BIANCHI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior catcher from San Diego, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Saturday, February 10th through Sunday, February 16th.

Bianchi led Trinity to a pair of wins in a three-game weekend series at 12th ranked Millsaps College, finishing with a 13-10 extra-inning series clincher.

Bianchi hit .692 (9-13) over the weekend, scoring four runs, and driving in five more to account for nine of the team's 27 runs scored.  He also had two doubles, a triple, and a home run, totaling 16 bases for an outstanding 1.231 slugging %. Bianchi drew two walks as well for an on-base % of .733 for the weekend.

In the series finale, Bianchi went 5-6 with three runs and two RBI, hitting a double and a homer in the Tiger victory.  In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, he was 3-3 with a triple. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior infielder Todd Takabuki of Austin College had an outstanding weekend at the plate, hitting .333 with a double and three RBI in three games against Schreiner. Senior infielder Marc Martinez of Centenary hit. 500 on the weekend and recorded a team-leading six hits. Martinez logged a hit in all three games with two multiple hit efforts. Martinez drove in a run and scored once also on the weekend. Junior infielder Luciano Villanueva of Dallas hit .300 over the weekend including two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Senior catcher Chase Valdez of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a 2-1 weekend going 4-for-9, one homerun, four walks, and five RBIs. Freshman catcher Charlie St. Clair of Southwestern finished the weekend 5-for-9 at the plate with three RBIs and four runs scored. Senior infielder/designated hitter Derek Kanas of Texas Lutheran hit .429 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases in TLU's 2-2 week.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 10th – February 16th

BLAINE TEW OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior right handed pitcher from Denison, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Saturday, February 10th  through Sunday, February 16th.

Tew picked up his first win of the season and gave the 'Roos their first win of the season in a non-conference game against Schreiner.

Tew pitched a gem, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He finished his day pitching 8.1 innings with just one run allowed on three hits to earn the 5-1 victory over the Mountaineers.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Paul Arcement of Centenary picked up his first save of the season in the win over UT-Tyler. Arcement struck out six in the two contests and allowed five walks. Junior pitcher Jacob Brunsof Dallas pitched 7.0 innings while only allowing one run on two hits in a loss to ETBU. Freshman pitcher Brett Marcom of Southwestern threw a complete game on Saturday but was dealt the loss. Sophomore pitcher Dwayne Snider of Texas Lutheran pitched into the eighth inning and was saddled with the loss after 7-2/3 innings pitched and one run allowed. Junior pitcher Zack Speer of Trinity scattered seven hits over seven innings of work, allowing just one run.  He struck out seven batters, walking one, and pitching the Tigers to an 11-2 victory. Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
