TLU's Jacobs; Aleman Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior shortstop Zach Jacobs and junior pitcher Aaron Aleman of Texas Lutheran University have been selected as SCAC Baseball Players of the Week for their outstanding performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 17th – February 23rd

ZACH JACOBS OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior shortstop from Brenham, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Saturday, February 17th through Sunday, February 23rd.

Jacobs collected nine hits in 17 at-bats, hitting .529, and drove in nine runs as the Bulldogs went 3-2 during the week. 

Jacobs scored three runs, tripled twice and stole three bases. He also delivered a pair of sacrifice flies. Seven of Jacobs' nine RBI came in the three-game sweep of Austin College.

His biggest day came on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game of a doubleheader against the 'Roos. He followed that up with a 3-for-3 day including three more RBIs to complete the sweep.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman infielder Daniel Keene of Austin College was strong at the plate in two appearances last week, batting .429 with a triple and four runs batted in. Keene also scored a run and had a stolen base. Senior infielder Mark Carlson of Dallas hit .600 over the weekend including a doubles, four runs scored, five stolen bases, and a RBI. Sophomore infielder Connor Moore of Trinity posted an outstanding .636 batting average over the three games, going 7-11 at the plate, and scoring a team-best six runs.  He also drew four walks and was hit by a pitch, upping his on-base percentage to .750 for the weekend. Centenary, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 17th – February 23rd

AARON ALEMAN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior right handed pitcher from Corpus Christi, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Saturday, February 17th  through Sunday, February 24th.

Aleman picked up the win in the opening game of the Austin College series by pitching seven innings and striking out five. 

He allowed one earned run and did not walk a batter. He scattered six hits. The victory over the 'Roos led to a weekend sweep over Austin College and a 3-2 record over the week for the Bulldogs. Aleman improved to 2-1 on the season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior pitcher Martin Cornin of Dallas pitched 7.0 innings while only allowing one run on eight hits and struck out three in a victory over Centenary. Junior pitcher Zack Speer of Trinity allowed just two hits in his five innings of work, and left the seven-inning contest with a 9-0 lead.  He pitched around four walks, and recorded one strikeout, but allowed just three runners to get into scoring position. Austin College, Centenary, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
