Centenary's Parrott, Trinity's Walker Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outfielder Nic Parrott of Centenary College and sophomore pitcher Michael Walker of Trinity University have been named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week after their outstanding performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 10th – March 16th

NIC PARROTT OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior outfielder from Atlanta, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10th through Sunday, March 16th.

Parrott led the Gents with a .625 batting averaging – second on the team – while driving in 11 runs which led the team to a 4-0 weekend including a sweep over the University of Dallas to start the conference season 3-0. 

Parrott went 10-for-16 at the dish including a double, two triples, and a homerun. He tallied a 1.125 slugging percentage, an on-base percentage of .700, and scored seven times. 

His biggest games came against LeTourneau, where he was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored, just a double away from the cycle. Parrott added a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs in the finale against Dallas.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman catcher Gus Daniel of Austin College batted batted .500 with a run scored and boasted a .636 on base percentage in three games last week, and was also a stalwart defensively from his catcher position, throwing out six of seven runners on stolen base attempts. Junior outfielder Tony Gennusa of Texas Lutheran belted a pair of home runs (including the game-winner in the first game Friday) to lead the Bulldogs to a three-game conference series sweep of Austin College. Senior outfielder Pat Hirschberg of Trinity hit .600 (6-10) for the three-game series, scoring six runs and driving in six more to account for 12 of the team's 27 runs over the weekend.  He cracked two home runs to increase his team-leading total to five round-trippers this season. Dallas, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.


SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 10th – March 16th

MICHAEL WALKER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore left handed pitcher from Humble, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10th through Sunday, March 16th.

Walker led Trinity to a three-game SCAC weekend sweep against Southwestern University, earning the win in the opening game of the series.

Walker threw seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits, and striking out five batters without yielding a walk.  The seven shutout innings improves his current streak to 15 innings, earning combined shutouts in each of his last two outings.

For the season, Walker is now 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA in five appearances.  He has 17 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched, combining for shutouts in two games, and holding the opposition to a .196 batting average.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Blaine Tew of Austin College was outstanding in a loss to TLU, surrendering three runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits in 6.2 innings of work. Junior pitcher Taylor Henry of Centenary logged 12 innings on the bump and garnered a pair of wins for the Maroon and White. Henry struck out 15 batters, eight in the 16-4 win on Sunday, in the two appearances while posting a 3.00 ERA. Junior pitcher Aaron Aleman of Texas Lutheran tossed a complete-game seven-hitter in a 2-1 road win over Austin College on Friday. Aleman tied his career-high with nine strikeouts in the win. Dallas, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
